Community Childcare Assistance Fund

The Durham Foundation established The Durham Foundation Community Childcare Assistance Pass-Through Fund in 2026 to help families in need with the cost of childcare.

The Durham Foundation understood the need to help fill the gap for families affected by the loss of state assistance for licensed childcare costs. The Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF) has spent many years forging an alliance with local nonprofit childcare centers to learn of their needs and challenges. Being confident in MCCF’s legacy of responsible stewardship and community partnerships, The Durham Foundation's board entrusted them with the implementation and management of The Durham Foundation Community Childcare Assistance Pass-Through Fund (Childcare Assistance Fund).

Nonprofit, licensed, Montgomery County childcare providers receive the Childcare Assistance Funds from the MCCF .

The childcare provider's staff are the frontline contact with parents. These professionals are trained to identify genuine need-based situations, such as when unexpected crises impact families.  When a need arises, the Provider's staff works with MCCF on a case-by-case basis to make sure that Childcare Assistance Fund dollars pay for the childcare to benefit the families who need the most help.

Yes.  The Childcare Assistance Fund agreement spells out that parents or guardians must be working, attending training, or going to school either part or fulltime, and be a Montgomery County, Indiana, resident.  Since the Durham Foundation's mission is to help make a positive difference in the lives of women, special consideration will be given to a single parent household, especially single moms.

Although our "Through the Wicket" fundraiser is a fun, popular, unique event, you do not need to participate in the event to donate to the Childcare Assistance Fund.  Donations can be made anytime!  This link will take you to the Fund’s online donation portal. You can also visit the MCCF office at 119 E. Main St, Downtown Crawfordsville, during business hours to make a donation, or mail it to MCCF, PO Box 334, Crawfordsville, IN 47933. Be sure to identify your gift as going to the “The Durham Foundation Community Child Care Assistance Fund”.

Contact MCCF Early Learning Director, Lisa Walter, for more information about the Childcare Assistance Fund.  Lisa can be contacted via email lisa@mccf-in.org, or phone 765.362.1267.
